Black Mirror Season 3 episode – Hated in the Nation is one of my favourite episode which hooked and bizarre me see the future of Social Media and its influence.

It’s well narrated story with good screenplay. It is simply awesome as well as terrific.

To get into the facts of life……a talent needs recognition.

a skill should be noticed…..a film requires publicity and promotion.

a Business requires strategy and brand building……a Social cause requires visibility for awareness…….a funny video deserves to go viral.

There are many things that can go viral for entertainment and awareness. Not all requires sharing and promotion. All we share matters a lot.

Let it be our location status, the fun with partner or the instant emotions and feelings we share about others. Everything needs social care while posting. There is a thin line, in between private and social life. Ignoring it yields instant likes, shares and popularity, but not help in building the real network of human relationships.

Future world is going to be packed with AI and AR. Others know more about you than yourself.

Future life is going to be excited and abnormal too. Normal life shall become an expensive affair to live……to escape from cameras, trackers and AR devices.

You are noticed, located and tracked. Each move you take is not yours.

So, enjoy the moments before the technology take over you.

Drink, dance, jump, meet, party and do whatever you want before you are controlled by devices.

Hardly…..you might have another half a decade to control your privacy….as AR and AI is getting ready for you……to control.

3d – The new Aladdin Genie Lamp

Let it be amir khan twins role in Dhoom3

or Matrix Reloaded movie amazing fight between Neo and Agent Smith where Agent Smith spawns to hundreds of Smiths that brought goosebumps to the audience in theatres.

Double, triple and multiple roles of a single actor is possible with camera trick, Robotics or with the latest 3d technology that can make unbelievable 3d characters. Sometimes, it’s not possible to make a lion or tiger to act, where the shot requires serious expressions or perfect body language for an animal. Then 3d is the only way to go.

It started with Jurassic Park and there are many such roles in Narnia, Harry Porter series, Lord of the rings etc. that used technology to bring back the extinct characters to life or golam kind of characters that played crucial role for the movie.

List goes on from hollywood movies to tollywood movies that has lot of 3d animals, 3d characters, 3d crowd multiplications etc that elevated the movie experience to an altogether different level.

Another great example is Richard Parker character in Life of Pie movie, which is completely developed in 3d.  Congrats to the award winning Rythm and Hues studio, for the great effort being the 2nd god creating realistic characters using 3d technology.

….what a fun it is.

There are many such case studies in films and TV series that has seamless 3d integration of characters. crowd multiplications and sets which brought great visuals to the world of entertainment. Browse through the link to know more.

We at Srushti VFX wish to see more Richard Parkers and Golams which are the dream characters of the director. Sometimes the real heroes of a story.

Real Time Rendering – A Big move in 3d Technology

While working with Northgate Technologies in the year 2007, i’m assigned with a 3d virtual world project called naviha. By then, Secondlife is a leading 3d virtual world market, which is an immediate reference for our project. I started researching on existing and upcoming game engines which slowly started shifting their focus from console platforms to casual game market. In the race, as a new entry Unity emerged as the killer with its features and affordability to develop casual games.

As my previous experience is more into media content development, i always see an opportunity with every new software tool and that curiosity lead me to build something for media with the help of RTR (for my convenience, i’m coining the shortcut RTR for Real Time Render word)technology. It ended up making my first video for a Local TV channel. Thanks to my boss for putting faith in me when i assured to deliver a complete 3d promo in just 4 days of it’s tight schedule for telecasting. It’s a great experience for me and my team. Greatness is not because we are part of a pixar movie, digital domain or atleast delivering a quality render. It’s being one of the first and part of a revolutionary technology that is going to redefine 3d technology.

In pursuit, we started a new division in Srushti…….and we did not miss a single tool that had a scope to be part of enhancing the quality of real time render technology Our aim at srushti is to deliver cinematic quality with RTR.

In the go, Unity’s adam shortfall excited me a lot taking RTR into a completely different position.

Within a short gap after adam’s awesomeness, it’s Mill’s – Chevrolet – The Human Race short film that kicked the commercial side of RTR. Unreal made it real. The team at Mill nailed it perfectly.

Super excited, when i watched the recent apple ARKit launch video. It opened doors for real time 3d integration. It’s babysteps transform to giant leaps capturing many markets that are associated with 3d…..stay glued to the technology updates to believe it yourself. There will be a big technology shift. The day is too close where a….

  • vfx supervisor places his 3d character in real time and gets the shot ready for his director instantly. It’s all about sending the final shot to the edit table.
  • get your virtual dresses tailored instantly at the fashion stores.
  • experience an immersive dynamics or engineering class and interact with the best virtual faculties, who can speak, teach, shout and interact in the most realistic approach.
  • land on planets and teleport to the realistic 3d virtual worlds of your choice.
  • do conference with the holographic avatars that are more interactive like actual humans.
  • virtual receptionists guide you to the right person in a giant corporate office.
  • be the real super hero interacting the stunning 3d screens and characters.

Get immersed…..

The once amazing vfx shots of matrix and avatar shall be a designer reference for interface designing and gesture navigation for upcoming 3d worlds and application navigation. Move close to the realistic experience backed by the powerful 3d, haptics and AI…..you are very near and near to it.

Our team at Srushti foresee building fantastic worlds to the world. Stay tuned to experience something wow.

Signal vs Noise

Change is constant. Learning is constant.

Learning after change is permanent.

Sometimes simple things make major change.

Great change happens knowing the actual basics.

There is music and sound.

Ignorance is bliss. We enjoy  both when we are unaware of the difference.

But, knowing difference is essential for a good life.

It made me think a lot, when my friend was discussing about basecamp story and their blog- Signal vs Noise. Though i randomly follow the blog, i am a big fan for their blog title. Cheers to the team basecamp for such a wonder title and postings.

Content is king….Quality is Emperor

Content is king statement is used in one of the presentation done at the beginning of my career.

Being part of a broadband wireless internet solutions company in the year 2000, it’s easily understood that the role of content is going to be critical for the future world of internet. Thanks to my CEO, who introduced us to the world of future, gaming, animation and 3d virtual worlds. When most of my colleagues were expecting their next move in their career, I was excited to see the magic of future internet.

web 1.0 allowed using images and interactive websites

web 2.0 moved ahead with user generated content creation. So, the move in content usage on internet started booming.

Getting started in 2005, youtube made a huge buzz in the world of video and entertainment. India caught the wave after the huge success of kolaveri di song. Since then, all enthusiasts participated in building content for youtube making it 2nd largest search engine by uploading millions of videos related to art, films, cooking, gossips, news, documentaries, learning, funny etc.

Youtube is a case which proved that…….Content is king. Thanks to Google. Youtube is free to use. On the flip side, there are paid channels like netflix, VUDU, amazon prime etc, which are making decent buzz with their exclusive content like breaking bad, madmen, black mirror, etc. Though Youtube has billions of videos, people are still searching for more. Audience preferences are slowly changing towards quality content. Content has viewers and quality content has more scope than viewers. Moving ahead, internet is getting into the palms of people with all ages, genders and kids. It’s the right time to catch the digital wave to rise up with quality.

Let’s take the case study of Dangal movie,

Dangal is a Hindi movie, which is inspired by a real story. It is well received by global audience and made Indians proud by being one of the biggest hit till now. Thanks to Chinese audience who proved that a movie with a right story has no region or nativity barriers. Their contribution and dangal success inspires future film makers as a case study proving that – A good story can break boundaries and a perfect movie win hearts.

We are proud to have an actor like amir khan whose contribution and dedication proved many times that Quality Content is Emperor. Congratulations to Team Dangal. You made it right….I’ll watch Dangal again on netflix. Thanks to internet. It changed the world of Entertainment and Media.

Good to go long way……

Conclusion is the Beginning

The Bahubali series is indeed a rare attempt in Indian Cinema. Never before have we seen a team spending 2 years to lay the ground work and another 5 years to complete the production.

Much of the credit for the success of this dream project owes to the visionary of the production house Arka Media and the veteran filmmaker S.S Rajamouli. If you need a perfect example for “hard work always pays off” don’t look beyond! If you are willing to push your limits anything is possible. There is a good old saying among storytellers. It is not ‘what you say’ but ‘how you say’ that matters. Bahubali just fits perfectly into this golden rule. As such Bahubali is a simple folklore story that is told well. Although he had a big team of technical experts to play with, Rajamouli didn’t forget the basic factor that drives a cinema. The storytelling!

It is important to note that all the technical finesse shaped up perfectly to magnify the essence of the story that is being told. There is a difference between a movie that is made exclusively for VFX and one that uses VFX to strengthen its core content. This is where Bahubali succeeds. The director, the VFX crew and the entire team deserves a huge round of applause for pulling off this mammoth project.

Due to its vast history, India in itself is a land of delightful stories. Just have a look at its history, myths and epics! They will never cease to amaze an individual even a thousand years from now. With the success of Bahubali, we now know that India is capable of delivering such amazing stories in the grandeur that they deserve. This might just be the push Indian cinema needed to adorn its global reach.

In other words……Bahubali Conclusion is just the beginning.
